Beatitudes

Jesus begins His sermon on the mount explaining life in His upside-down Kingdom. The ones indicated in the beatitudes are "the blessed people": the poor in spirit, the mourning, the meek, those who hunger & thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and the persecuted. This list is not an imperative, but a description of what IS. There is nothing that can take away our blessedness. Those in God's Kingdom are completely needy and dependent on God and constantly being transformed to be His salt and light in this world. Our invitation is to invite the Kingdom of God to invade our life and transform us from the inside out.
