Close Friendship

Feb 1, 2026    Matthew Young
Matthew Young applies Proverbs 3:5-6 to friendship through the story of David and Jonathan in 1 Samuel. He contrasts Jonathan's covenant friendship with two failed responses to David, hero worship and jealous hatred, both of which flow from leaning on our own understanding. The message ends with three marks of close friends: they confess sin and pray for one another, they remain constant through adversity, and they sacrifice for each other in the pattern of Jesus, who laid down his life for his friends.
